Identity Development in Supervision
My goal as a Supervisor is to Support Supervisee’s in finding their voice and their place in the field. I FIRMLY believe that we are ALL NEEDED and that we ALL bring so much beauty and value to this wonderful profession and I want to help you find your Professional Identity.
Why Does Professional Identity Matter?
• Clinical competence involves more than techniques and interventions
• Professional identity shapes judgment, boundaries, and ethical decision
making
• Supervision plays a central role in how clinicians understand their role
and responsibility
• Without intentional support, identity development is often shaped by
fear, shame, or rigidity.
What to expect along our Supervision Journey together…
- Help you identify what work feels aligned
- Reflect on your values, strengths, and relational capacity as a professional
- Exploring preferences – does not limit your opportunity – it helps you to build direction
- Help to normalize uncertainty while encouraging discernment
- Developing your clinical voice, authentic style, values, and way of relating
- I aim to create a safe relationship for you to be able to really explore who you are as a counsellor/therapist and find confidence to integrate that into your sessions, marketing, and your overall professional identity
- Regular reflective check-ins alongside skill review/practice ( Reflective Supervision is Containment – NOT therapy) (Containment allows reflection without role confusion, the focus remains on your role as a counsellor/therapist and not on personal treatment, and reflective supervision supports professional meaning-making)
- Integration of identity with competency requirements and best practices
** This list is only pieces and parts of the work that we will do together, if it looks like something that you’re interested in – e-mail wholeheartedcounselling@outlook.com to find a time in our schedules to meet up!**
